Booking the Space

Please call 559-779-1087 to set up an appointment to see the space and to find out dates, rates and other info.

The theater is wonderfully intimate as we seat only 50 with an option to expand to 5 more if need be. In every performance, the audience is right there near the performers, seemingly playing like a movie. There is a small backstage (more like a wide hallway) and several entrances and exits. The space is not perfect. It’s an old 1922 lath-plaster buidling.

What was it before the Broken Leg?? Well, it was once an appliance store which the name is still up on the wall inside the theater. It was an old Safeway grocery store, a computer repair store, Ralph Nader’s campaign headquarters, and then an art gallery before The Broken Leg Stage was born. Some say it reminds them of the old playboxes, or storefront theaters in Chicago and in New York. And some say it’s got that underground speakeasy vibe because the theater is tucked away in the back of the building. To us, it’s more of a dive with a chance at getting some really good food (or something rarely done in Fresno). We never know what will be coming in and that’s the fun of it. We try to keep it very affordable to the many groups out there as WE WANT PERFORMING ARTS TO THRIVE. Do we produce shows? Absolutely. A few shows a year.
